Mission to Seafarers Report 2016

St. Andrew's held it's annual Sea Sunday Service on 10th July when Captain Jeremy Attwater preached and an envelope collection raised £148.10 of which £94 was gift aided. In December members of the congregation and friends and family filled 56 shoe boxes, which were taken to Portbury Mission in time for delivery to Seafarers at Christmas time, as well as many additional knitted goods , particularly coloured hats. The additional donations given, £127.50, enabled the Mission staff to purchase 25 phone cards for visiting Seafarers to phone home on Christmas Day. Many can be away from home for months on end. It was reported that seafarers of all nationalities behaved like children when given the boxes, and the staff said it was heart warming to watch. St. Andrew's support of the Mission is greatly appreciated. £152.75 was raised from the sale of Mission to Seafarers' Advent Calendars and Christmas Cards.
