The Children's Society Report 2017

We have had quite a busy and successful year.  Once again our Strawberry Tea in June was well supported and, we hope, enjoyed by all as well as raising £182.  We have held this event for several years now and it still proves to be popular so we are planning another on 23rd June this year.  The Summer Sale in August raised nearly £300 and the Quiz in October £122. We opened the boxes earlier this year so did not have a full 12 months but, even so, they contributed nearly £600 to the funds.

Our Christmas events were better supported than in 2016.  The Christingle Service produced a full Church; so many adults as well as children love to attend this and the collection from that amounted to £304.
The Crib Scene in the Church, together with the Christmas Tree Festival brought in a large number of visitors, many of whom were generous with their donations to the Crib Scene, which totalled £216.  Having the Crib there until Candlemas and the appearance of the Wise Men was an added interest this year.
The Coffee Morning we held in March was a great success, raising £250.  Having it in the Church instead of the Church Hall seemed to work well; it is good to bring people into the Church for such a pleasant and sociable event. Jean’s remake cards continue to sell throughout the year and, together with that income, some donations and our events, we have raised a very good total of £2,870 this year.

We are very sad that Hazel Braund, who was a very long-serving member of our committee, died on 12th March.  She was very active in helping to organise our events and, for some years, served as our Secretary.  She will be greatly missed.

We are very grateful for the wonderful support we receive from the congregation of St Andrew’s Church and look forward to seeing them at our events during the coming year.
