Quietly Saving Lives

Sea Sunday 14th July 2019

SEA SUNDAY is the global celebration of the enduring and vital work of the Mission to Seafarers. For more than 160 years, thousands of Christians have been organising events to pray, celebrate and fundraiser for this vital work. On 14th July Christians from Lagos to London, and Durban to Dunkirk, and in Burnham on Sea will be taking part in Sea Sunday. Your support will ensure that the teams of staff and volunteers can be out there 365 days a year, supporting Seafarers who work in some of the most inhospitable places on Earth. The full impact they have, the advice they share and practical support they provide is often never seen, but their work is ‘quietly saving lives’. This is the theme of Sea Sunday 2019 and the fundraising will ensure that the Mission to Seafarers can be there whenever and wherever seafarers need their help. The debt we owe to those who serve us at sea is immeasurable.

There will be envelopes for donations to the Mission to Seafarers in church at all services on Sea Sunday and during the following week. These can be returned to church during July in the collection basket. (Please Gift Aid if you can.)

Following the Sea Sunday service at 10am at St. Andrew’s, empty shoe boxes will be available for anyone who would like to fill one with goodies, for the Seafarers who visit the Portbury Mission during the Christmas season. (Lists of suitable items will be found inside the boxes). The filled boxes do not need to be returned until the beginning of December! We shall personally deliver them to the Mission. Further boxes can be collected at the annual Mission to Seafarers’ Coffee Morning in September.

Date for your diary: Saturday 28th September

Coffee Morning in aid of the Mission to Seafarers from 10 to 12 noon in church.

Forgive me for mentioning Christmas twice but Christmas cards and Advent calendars can be preordered in church in early September and can be collected at or after the Coffee Morning on 28th September.

Shoe lovers can you help?

When you next buy a pair of shoes please ask for the box to go with them if possible, (and one or two more if you can) Due to the closure of local shoe shops boxes are becoming more difficult to obtain. Any unwanted ones at home can also be used. Please cover them in Christmas paper first, before adding the contents.
