Thursday Prayer at Ten"    You are invited to devote 15 minutes, starting at 10 a.m. with the "Our Father" then praying for the weeks cause and concluding at 10.15 by saying the "Grace".  It is simply committing to that time each week by praying "together whilst apart". Here is the prayer for Thursday prayer:

Cecillia – Feast day 22nd We think of all who make music and whose lives and talents are limited by C19.

Collect for St. Cecilia Day

Most gracious God, whose blessed martyr Cecilia sang in her heart to strengthen her witness to you: We give you thanks for the makers of music whom you have gifted with Pentecostal fire; and we pray that we may join with them in creation’s song of praise until at the last, with Cecelia and all your saints, we come to share in the song of those redeemed by our Saviour Jesus Christ; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

 For Church Musicians and Artists

O God, whom saints and angels delight to worship in heaven:  Be ever present with your servants who seek through art and music to perfect the praises offered by your people on earth; and grant to them even now glimpses of your beauty, and make them worthy at length to behold it unveiled for evermore; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Eat In Night!

There is a Christian Aid bucket in the church for those who would like to donate in lieu of the Quiz this year. It’s quite difficult to find the church open at the moment unless you are available when there are Private Prayer slots, so the bucket will remain there until the week after lockdown ends. You can also donate via the Christian Aid website https://www.christianaid.org.uk, but it would be good if you mentioned you donated via the St Andrew’s Christian Aid email address (below).

A number of people who did the “Eat In Night!” last week and thank you for that. You could choose your own evening to get involved if you forgot! If you have any photos of the evening do send them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to put them into the fun competition, or put them in the Christian Aid bucket.

Christmas Presents for the Refuge

Everything is different this year and the Refuge is no exception. They are asking for Ladies’ Toiletries and Gift Vouchers only. I will take any toys which have already been bought, but storage space is very limited for them. Gift Vouchers must be for supermarkets or other shops; Amazon or other online places can risk security for users. If you would like to help the Refuge, please bring donations to me at 80 Stoddens Road. There is a deliveries bin by the side door if we are out. I will deliver presents on 7th or 8th December. Thank you for your support. Kath Allen

( *If the seafarers are unable to leave their ships gifts are taken to them.)

Please return your boxes and any additional items to church on Sunday, 5th December. If this is not possible please put them in church  on Monday , 30th November/ Wednesday 2nd December /Friday 4th December /Monday 6th December between 10am and noon when the church is open for private prayer. Alternatively boxes maybe left at the vicarage.

If you have been unable to do a box this year but would still like to make a donation please put your offerings in an envelope marked Portbury Mission Shoeboxes. The money will be used for seafarers in need at our local Mission.

We plan to take all the gifts and offerings to the Mission in early December.

Thank you for your generosity.

In these uncertain times I share with you the following  prayer  by 6th century Irish Saint Brendan:

(It was in the Reflection in the autumn issue of the Mission to Seafarers Fan Flying Angel news)

Help me to journey beyond the familiar and into the unknown.

Give me the faith to leave old ways and break fresh ground with You.

Christ of the mysteries, I trust You to be stronger than each storm within me.

I trust in the darkness and know that my times, even now, are in Your hand.

Tune my spirit to the music of heaven, and somehow, make my obedience count for You.

Amen

Thank you

Liz Roost
