Julian Group – Monday 18th May 2020

Dear Friends,
We hope that this finds you safe and well. It is hard  to believe that it is a month since our last virtual Julian Meeting. It is very good to keep the appointment and we hope that you will be able to join us in contemplative fellowship on Monday morning at 10 a.m. for a precious half hour in the Great Silence who is our Lord. You will need little help from us but the following snippets are offered to stimulate your own reflections. There may be something here that helps; we can all pray the same prayer of access “going in” and returning “coming out”. By these means the blessing is shared and that is precious.
Yours in contemplation,
Liz and Tony

Introduction
A former CBS anchor, Dan Rather, once found himself unprepared for a television interview with Mother Teresa. “When you pray” he asked,”what do you say to God?”
“I don’t say anything” she replied. “I listen”.
He tried another tack: “Well,ok,when God speaks to you then ,what does he say?”
“He doesn’t say anything.” The interviewer looked bewildered. For an instant, he did not know what to say.
“And if you don’t understand that”, Mother Teresa went on, “I can’t explain it to you.”

Life is grace
Listen to your life.See it for the fathomless mystery that it is. In the boredom and the pain of it no less than the excitement and gladness: touch, taste and smell  your way  to the heavenly and hidden heart of it because, in the last analysis, all moments are key moments, and life itself is grace.
(Frederick Buechner - American writer, poet and Theologian ,born 1926)

“GOING IN “to the Great Silence ( about 5 minutes)
Breathe deeply and mindfully; use your Mantra prayer or phrase to focus the mind and divert thoughts /distractions; use this whenever  “monkey thoughts” distract.
Pray,
“Lord, relax my body and quieten my mind. Help me to be open to you in silence.
You are here now , with me. Help me to cease from striving or anxiety. I desire stillness, silence , so that You May reach me and I may let You love me.”

BEGIN ........... allow approximately 25 minutes ....... breathe deeply, use your Mantra.....
bathe in His love, float in His gracious stream.......avoid words....... let in  images, sensations, colours......... just listen for His still small voice

“COMING OUT”   slowly, gently  return to the now

Conclusion
In the 13th (of 16) “Showings” (Julian) asked Jesus why it was that an all powerful God allows sin and suffering. His answer: “It was necessary that there should be sin; but all shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well”

God be gracious to you.
