Julian Meeting

Julian Group February 2022
Dear Julian Friends,

As I write Storm Eunice rages outside, so our prayer is for your safety in these windy times. We are looking forward to sharing with you on Monday next, in person or in spirit.
The outlook is so much more optimistic so far as the virus is concerned. Who knows?We may even be able to share post Meeting coffee and conversation at our next meeting on  21st March. May we remind you that our Meeting in April is one week earlier on the 11th April, in Holy Week, as the third Monday is Easter Monday this year.

Last month we availed ourselves of the wisdom of John Main, monk and author who died 40 years ago in 1982, and Margaret Rizza , composer and author, on the theme of ‘Silence of the Soul’. We also remembered some of the poetry and and music lyrics of David Adam, priest, poet and author and one time Warden of Holy Island, Lindisfarne. We agreed to continue in this vein this month. We hope these small resources help us all to cross again that bridge between frantic activism in our daily lives into the Great Silence, where we bask in the glow of Father God’s all embracing love.

Please join us at the appointed  hour of 10 a.m. in St. Andrew’s if you can, or at such other convenient time at home when you can.

Love from us to you all, fellow contemplatives.

Yours,
Liz and Tony
(Burnham Area Co-ordinators.)

RESOURCES
A reading from Ephesians, Chapter 3, in two parts.
Firstly verses 14 to 19:
This, then, is what I pray, kneeling before the Father, from whom every family, whether spiritual or natural, takes its name: Out of his infinite glory, may he give the power through his Spirit for your hidden self to grow strong, so that Christ may live in your hearts through faith, and then, planted in love and built on love, you will with all the saints have strength to grasp the breadth and length, the height and the depth; until, knowing the love of Christ, which is beyond all knowledge, you are filled with the utter fullness of God.’

GOING INTO the Great Silence……… breathe deeply …….
 YAHWE in two syllables….
On the inward breath, YAH…….,
on the outward breath, WE…… breathe in the love of God….
breathe out all that distracts the mind, shedding the cares and concerns of the present…… just  BEING ….. for about five minutes….

The aim of this Christian way of prayer is to allow God’s mysterious and silent presence with us to become THE reality which gives meaning , shape and purpose to everything we do, to everything we are. The task is to bring our distracted minds to Stillness and Silence.  ‘     (John Main)

Here am I, Lord,
I’ve come to do your will;
Here am I, Lord,
In your presence I am still.’
 (David Adam)

Let go,
 let God,
Love you.

(Allow up to half an hour in the Great Silence)

COMING OUT …….. very, very slowly, gently, back to the present….

Ephesians chapter 3 again….. verses 20 and 21:
Glory be to him whose power, working in us,  can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine; glory be to him from generation to generation in the Church and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever, Amen. ‘

The recitation of the word is simply a means of turning our attention beyond ourselves,  a way of unhooking us from our own thoughts and concerns’.   (John Main)

Father, May they be one in us as you are in me and I am in you……with me in them and you in me may they be so completely one that the world will realise that it was you who sent me and that I have loved them as much as you have loved me.’
 (John 17, vv21&23)

BLESSING:
In the name of the restful Father,
In the name of the calming Son;
In the name of the peaceful Spirit,
May we and God be one. ‘   Amen
.
