Julian Group October 2020
Dear Julian Friends,
It is time for us to join together again in contemplating our Loving Father God at 10 a.m. on Monday morning. Please feel free to contemplate His tender loving-kindness at other times too! It is right and proper so to do. Below are some materials which you may find helpful to ease your way into and out of the Great Silence which is the HEART OF GOD.
Firstly though may I share the following thought. As many of you know my proof text in Scripture is 2 Chronicles 7 v 14. When my faith took flight again many years ago it was these words that resurfaced time and time again, speaking into pretty well every situation I encountered. The context is that Solomon has completed the great work of building the Temple (and renovating his Palace at the same time!), it has been Dedicated to God and then God appears to Solomon and says that when times get tough for His people by His own will He promises the following: ...”if my people ,who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
As we draw together in our Julian time on Monday it is the words, “seek my face” that seem to be especially relevant in the context of our fellowship. We may not have seen each other’s faces for some months now. There may be little immediate prospect of doing so, and when we might it is possible that we might still be wearing masks! I have found lately though that as I settle down into silence and stillness to contemplate ,it is very comforting to think for a moment or two about each of you, to see your face and to share a smile between us. Then we are together better equipped to seek the face that we all long to see in these shared moments together.
Stay well and safe until November when we shall be marking the fifth anniversary of the Burnham Area Julian Fellowship. Love from us both,
Tony & Liz
GOING IN:- Breathe deeply, rhythmically, employ your Mantra word or prayer throughout to anchor your mind and heart in seeking God’s face.
A Thought: “ Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can
see. “. (Mark Twain)
When mystery hides thee from the sight of faith and hope
When pain turns even love to dust;
When life is bitter to the taste and our song of joy dies down to silence;
Then , Father, do for us that which is past our powers to do for ourselves.
Break through our darkness with Thy Light.
Show us Thyself in Jesus suffering on a tree rising from the grave,
reigning from a throne, with all power and love for us unchanging.
So shall our fear be gone and our feet set upon a radiant path. Amen.
COMING OUT:- a Prayer
Gracious Father, let me have your Word hidden in my heart so deeply that it becomes a spring of action determining my conduct and character. Help me be steeped in Your mind, fired by Your passion and decisive in Your purposes.
In Jesus’ name.
The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.
